Kato will research and bring to market niche animal healthcare products

Animal health manufacturing in Australia is a challenging business for the following reasons: fewer new compounds coming to market; the ageing of existing product portfolios; Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) registration hurdles; regulatory reporting demands; industry consolidation means less companies investing in research, and so reducing customer’s product choices; buying groups putting pressure on manufacturer’s margins; increasing distributor costs; and being up against competitors whose global operations for manufacturing are set up in developing countries to take advantage of lower labour costs.

To compete effectively against this backdrop, Kato will research and bring to market niche animal health products, medicines that can stand alone and make a difference to animal’s lives. Our company’s objective is to be an animal health product innovator, and to do this and grow sustainably, we need to develop a diversified portfolio for different animal species.

Kato’s research involves looking for unique chemical entities, new combinations of existing chemicals and or new methods of manufacturing that will assist large animal’s (livestock) well-being as well as companion animal’s (pets) health. Furthering animal health is our mission because it encompasses our commitment to improving all animal’s health and well-being across Australia, New Zealand and wherever our products will be sold. This commitment also means that all products manufactured by Kato in Australia will deliver the best possible efficacy and safety.
